Refurbishment of Stopford House

Client

Stockport Metropolitan Borough Council

Value

£18m

The project involved the complete strip-out and refurbishment of the council’s central Stockport office as part of a wider asset consolidation strategy.

Supporting the council’s agile working strategy.

The council was implementing an estate consultation strategy incorporating a move to agile working.

This met the desire for flexible working patterns and an increase in people working from home.

We delivered services to support the provision of an agile workspace to accommodate these changes and support future proofing with a sustainable solution.

The extensive strip-out and refurbishment, spread across six floors of Stopford House, revealed key architectural features.

Improvements were also made to make the building more sustainable and enhance decarbonisation.

Award-winning design delivered within budget.

This successful refurbishment won an award for Best Corporate Workplace following its completion.

The triumph at the BCO North Awards 2023 had roots in the overall project approach.

We continually collaborated with the wider team and client representatives to scrutinise design.

At all times we ensured alignment with the council’s budget parameters and the five key objectives.

They were improving facilities, efficiency, adopting hybrid and new ways of working, attracting and retaining staff and supporting employee wellbeing.

We also led extensive analysis with the main contractor as part of a negotiated procurement route, ensuring the contract sum met council requirements
